How Can headache Along With Jaw Pain Be Treated?

My dentist as told me for a few years that I grind my teeth at night, and I should consider a splint for when I sleep. I never had any side affects before, but now for several months I have had headaches off and on in the back of my head. I am one who as never been bothered by any headaches unless I am sick. I ma seeing my dentist this week. I had no idea tmj could cause a headache at the back of the head. I thought it would only cause pain in the jaw. Am I on the right track? Thank you! Ps I am a 63 yea rold man.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

If you have tooth grinding habit then you can have pain in jaw as well as headache that is commonly concentrated on the temple region..

Pain in the back of head is not commonly seen to be due to TMJ related problems and you should consult a Physician and get evaluated..

If TMJ is suspected then a Panoromic x ray or a CBCT can be done for diagnosis and treatment can be planned according to the confirmed diagnosis..

As of now take painkillers like Ibuprofen or Diclofenac to relieve pain..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
